Counselor's Office

 Welcome Parents and Students!

Hello everyone!

My name is Emily Brotman and I am the Counselor/Case Manager at Stone Academy. I grew up just north of Chicago, went to college in Pennsylvania, and then lived in New York City for a couple years working in restaurant marketing. I came back home to Chicago about five years ago, and decided to change careers and become a school counselor. While I loved working with restaurants, I realized having the ability to counsel students and facilitate their future success held a deeper meaning for me. I wanted to become a school counselor so I could help students with social, emotional, and academic issues.

There are few people in a child’s life that can play the role of unbiased advisor, and I believe that is precisely the counselor’s job. I truly enjoy fulfilling this role for my students. I received my Masters of Education in Counseling at DePaul University, and completed my counseling internship at Stone alongside Martha Vitton during the 2010-2011 school year. After finishing my degree, I spent my first year as a school counselor at a middle school in Waukegan. I am thrilled to be back at Stone, and to see so many familiar faces. I love being a school counselor, and look forward to getting started in my new role at Stone Academy! When I’m not at work, I love to travel, cook, go to the movies, and read.
